Mom, I love you

Thank you for your love

For teaching me English

For insisting on good grades

For sticking my hair up, even if I didn’t like it

For making me a beach girl

And for the trauma

I inherited your sensitivity, your curls, your love for shrimps, and your passion for art and history

I crave your chocolate milk and grilled cheese sandwich with mustard

There is not a day that goes by that I thank you for us

For making me speak English at the supermarket

For letting me perform, get dressed, try on your shoes, and give you a concert every day

I admired your independence

Still do

That is why maybe I crossed the continent to find my own

Like you did yours

Maybe that is the reason for my feminism

To understand and scream my freedom and individuality as you do yours

I’ll never understand why you made me watch Below Eight when I was little

But I for sure get why we cry every time

I sometimes think you made me watch sad movies as a permission for yourself to cry

You are always so strong, so tall, so great

You’ve been my protector and my safety net

I envy your discipline, your morals, and your consistency

you've been my mentor on these three, and if I get the chance to be as half as funny as you are, I'll know I've made it in life

Thank you for you,

Always
